Barbara Warner, PhD (Public Policy), LPC-T
Barbara is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC-T) with a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Saint Mary, in the process of completing her supervision hours to become a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).
Barbara has a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of Arkansas. She also has a Master's in Government from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Science in Journalism from the University of Kansas. She has a background in medicine, particularly cancer care and neurology. She previously worked for the U.S. Congress, where she focused on increasing research into women's health. She also was the Senior Adviser for Communications to the Under Secretary for Economic Affairs in the U.S. Department of Commerce, where she specialized in immigrant and identity protection in the government collection of data, as well as the integrity of personal and economic data.
Her doctoral research focused on the power of language to influence psychology. This, combined with her training in counseling psychology, informs her work in helping patients understand their thought patterns, motivations, and processes that influence their choices and personal growth. Her interdisciplinary training emphasizes helping individuals find their inner sense of direction, their "true north" - especially during times of uncertainty, stress, or transition - so they can move forward in a way that feels grounded by their inner compass and live authentically.
Barbara's approach is patient-centered and eclectic, blending various psychological approaches that are best for each patient. She focuses on growth, healing, and an understanding safe, accepting, supportive environment. Her approach is holistic, relational, and client-centered. She cares deeply about each patient and emphasizes empathy, insight, and empowerment.
Barbara works with adults and couples. She has a special interest in addictions of all types. She is completing her Level 1 and Level 2 basic training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) through the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). EMDR is highly evidence-based for the treatment for trauma. She is licensed to see patients from Kansas and Missouri.
Barbara is devoted to short-hair, miniature dachshunds.
