Mary Pitman, MA, LPC

Mary is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with degrees from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of General Studies in Psychology and a minor in Sociology; the University of Saint Mary with a Master of Arts in Psychology that focused on the complex neuropsychological relationship between the brain and behavior; and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology.

Mary’s focus for counseling includes depression, anxiety disorder, mood disorders, and trauma with all age groups to include adolescents.  Her areas of interest include cognitive development and the neuropsychological effects of trauma on the brain and behavior.  She finds that the integration of mental health care, one’s religious/spiritual belief system, physical fitness, and healthy nutrition can be highly beneficial for overall well-being.  She has been trained and received certification in Mental Health First Aid USA under the National Council for Behavioral Health and is certified in Advanced Trauma Treatment for Children and Adolescents under the International Association of Trauma Professionals (IATP).  Mary has also completed Level 1 and Level 2 of basic training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) approved by EMDR International Association (EMDRIA).   Mary primarily uses cognitive behavioral therapy for treatment but will blend other models depending on the patient’s need, to include EMDR 

Mary’s research and writing fall within the field of Law and Psychology with the focus on at risk juveniles.  She continues to investigate juvenile adjudication and advocate for fair treatment of juveniles who become involved with police, prosecution, and court.
